Watched Gone fishing at the weekend and was suprised to see the skipper, filleting fish, with a pair of gloves on, I want to know if they are any good and what to look for in a glove, ie:- thickness, material, brand etc. 
Do many of the netters wear these?

I have a pair - they are the type that will not allow your knife to cut you - got them from Smart Marine - very light and dam good - not that I'm in the habit of cutting myself but you never know when stupid sod will motor past you and his wake will cause you a problem just as you start slicing.
They were not expensive and worth their weight in gold.
People who say it cannot be done should not interrupt those who are doing it!

yeah they will stop a knife from cutting you, but i wish they would design one that stopped snapper spines from jabbing me!!

Yep I use the light weight ones more for getting a damn good grip on a fish than anything. Too many years of filliting have hopefully honed my filliting technique, so, cutting my hand is not tooo much of an issue, but when I tried the Glove it made one hell of a difference :)

I use a Kevlar glove on my left hand. Haven't cut myself yet although a couple of times I thought that was close. Knife is VERY SHARP I could probably shave with it. One mistake and I know I could have a big problem. Better safe than sorry. The glove didn't stay white long though Smile

I usually use one - it gives the security to hoe into the filleting knowing that a slip isn't going to slice thru tendons and stuff.
