I'm planning my assualt on some kingies this session and my main platform will be the kayak. One of the techniques I plan on using is popper fishing but the thought of 2 trebles jumping around when I get the kingie to the yak is a bit of an issue.
 
So
Do poppers still work as effective with the trebles removed and replaced with 1 assistant hook?
Is the best position to attach it the middle area or like from most jigs the nose of the popper?

I am sure Capt A posted something about that a while ago but I can't find it for some reason. Looks to have some real potential I thought.

yep they work really well. I used them on my poppers for my last two overseas trips.
some poppers I have a double hook in the middle with a trailing single hook at the back or I just have 2 assists(small cord in the middle longer at the end)

I use a single live bait hook on a swivel (Owner)at the back  on a lot of my poppers and dont seem to have any problems with hook ups,i find the treble on the back catches the main line when casting not every cast but often enough to p*ss me off.Also sometimes i use a single on a split ring off the back or an assist off the middle is good too.Usually only have one hook tho not two seems to set better if only one hook used...

JB, You are correct that using multiple hooks or trebles when fishing for kingis out of a kayak or small boat is a recipe for disaster. A fish flapping around dragging hooks with it will only end up impaling someone. With a single hook at least you know it is in the fish's mouth.

I would go with the single hook at the back.
