What is the optimal depth to position your burley fishing at the mussel farms in the Firth of Thames at depths between 20 and 30 metres please?

At the surface, mid-water, or near the bottom and could you please explain the reasoning?

We have found success by dropping it down till out of sight, maybe 6m and sounder has shown fish at that depth and we have done rather well on 2 trips fishing at that depth.Winter fishing so who knows if it applies during spring/summer
