Looks the goods....with quite a low gear ratio at 3.7:1. There is a two speed model as well...

Not sure Boulder, I checked them out on the SOM website.....the only indication on price I've seen is a hefty US$1248 via tackle tour

Ouch, lookit the size of that drive gear, you'd think they'd be way more than 5.4:1, wouldn't you? And if that is a normal humans hand, they look pretty darn heavy as well.

The drive gears on these reels are 5mm thick pieces of stainless steel with a drive shaft of 1cm thick corrosion resistant stainless....780g.....the more I look at it, the more it reminds me of a Torsa

Not bad, but there's freight as well.
 
Looks as though they've beefed up the the AR bearing from the earlier model. There are no AR dogs in these reels so a very strong AR bearing is a necessity. Used to own one of the earlier models and it was very well made.

They have got some good feedback already from overseas anglers who have mentioned they are much better than the previous model.
 
Available in a few places already (overseas) for around NZD$1250 + freight

Out of interest Choppy is it possible to have a anti reverse bearing only be reliable under heavy drag? my experience is no but ive not played with eerything out there

Mike, the makers of these reels claim extraordinary drag pressures for the new super duper AR bearing in this reel. It's no doubt possible but the average quality reel sporting only an AR bearing or even a doubled AR bearing system will usually fail sooner or later. Of course that's dependant on how much drag pressure it's subjected to and how often.

Very tempting, nice looking reel
 
Pulled this off the OSM site, under L120 lever drag cautions link, hoping something was lost in the translation..... but this doesn't promote confidence for me - may wait to see how they go O/S.

Caution points while using our lever drag reel!
● While using the reel with the drag tension set high you may experience a heavier reel oscillation then with the drag set at a lower tension, this is normal with a lever drag reel. Using the reel with the drag tension set high for a long period of time although, could cause the bearing located inside the lever to malfunction.
● When you are not using the reel, please keep the drag lever set in the free position. To set the drag to the free position, Turn the preset knob all the way to the left. If left with the drag tightend it could damage your reel!
 
  Even while in normal use, the bearing located in the drag is under extreme pressure. We recommend that before you go on and return from an expedetion that you fully maintain your reel for top performance. If when changing your reel from strike to fighting position if the handles oscillation feels heavy, then its time to overhaul your reel.
* On our 2009 Blue Heaven L50, we are using the all new angular contact bearings, by adding these bearings it allows this reel to fish to the next level.You will also find these extra tough bearings on our L120 series reels.
● When operating the drag lever, the drag lever,drag cam and cam plate are always under positive friction. Due to the positive friction of the moving parts,we are using high grade materials,but due to that rubbing that evolves you will evantually lose drag performance and must overhaul at that time.If you lose smoothness overhaul your reel

Thats pretty standard for all lever drags I think.
Who here would not back their drags right off after washing.

They would want to be a big improvement over the original BH.
I know a charter operator in Perth with 4 in the corner of the garage sick of getting them repaired.

yeah I read that too. i think ther'e being too honest by saying it'll bind up with very high drag settings, the bearing in the R/H side plate will be under huge pressure-a characteristic of all lever drags. Also, before departing on a extended trip, (such as the Kings, Ranfurly etc) ensure your reel is in top condition first by having a service done if its hard to push the lever forward or it binds up etc etc...

Great reels with out doubt if the previous generation is anything to go by (Drags aside), but bang for buck there are equally good reels for a few $$$ less IMHO
 
still they are very shiny and blingy Clap
