Hey guys and girls, I was just wondering if someone could point me towards a good stickbait rod to match with a Shimano Stradic 8000 reel. Yes I realise that this isn't the perfect reel for the job but its to be used off a kayak and wanted something a bit smaller and less expensive than a stella.

Any help and ideas would be awesome.

Tim.

I recommend you buy a true stickbait and not a popper rod.  There’s a big difference between the two types of rod in the tip in particular and the softer stickbait tip allows the stickbait to swim as it is designed to do.  A popper rod will cast further but be too stiff to swim the lure properly.  Also, you may find a stickbait rod a little easier on you in a kayak.  I'm lucky enough to have a Carpenter Blue Chaser which is fantastic for this stickbait top-water fishing and I fish off a jet ski so balance in the water is important for me too.

If a Carpenter BLC is too expensive, consider a Caranx Kaibutsu L PE 4-6 Rod stickbait rod.

Best of all, first speak to Tony or John at Yeehaa Fishing in Panmure.  They’ll be helpful in giving you the options to choose from.  Cheers.

A stickbait rod that has a fold away tip made for kingfish like the BLC range from Carpenter would make not only fishing stickbaits easier but also landing / unhooking fish.  The OTI does swim stickbaits well ( only watched it swimming Falcons ) but I don't think it would fold away so well for a kingfish under the boat / ski/ yak , I think AP or someone with experience of fighting / landing fish on this rod would know better , I haven't seen one with a fish on. Don't know anything about the Caranx , but do think the OTI swims baits well.
