Hey thinking of going somewhere different for a shore dive in a week or 2.  I know a few people that launch from Tairua but was wondering if the shore diving around there was any good.  Not after any spot x or anything jsut want to know whether im wasting my time or not.

Any reccomendations on where I should go thats not to much of a hike would be appreciated.  Just a general area that is worth a look.

Cheers
Gundry

If you drive another 3omins to Whiti the ask me nicely i may have a nice little possie bout 20mins up the road that has been producing some rather large Butters, good sized John Dory and a couple of Kings mooching around as well.....(Pllenty of crays in shallow as well ;) )
Tiz a 10 minute swim or walk to said spot but well worth it.....

PM me if you are interested

Sailors grave. you can work your way around into the next couple of bays if you wanted aswell. we dived it a couple of weeks ago before heading out to the aldermans. Picked up a nice snap maybe 2kg, butters and a johnie. I saw a small kingi there this time last year aswell but it was small.

For all the stories of sailors grave, I've never heard of a really decent haul or big fish coming from there. Not saying they don't happen, I've just never come across a report or pics that'd make me want to go there.

I know one rock that seems to host endless snapper there.  Are you just useless, Merby?

I wouldent travel any serious distance just to dive it but if you wanted a shore dive close to tairua it would be the closesest and I would be suprised (looking sideways at) if someone left totally empty handed.
