They made some dungers pre - 2007 but have picked up their act since with the new generation hulls with the moderate v with gull wing. In the smaller 5 metre boats they went to a 5mm hull which gave a heavier boat and a better ride. The gull wing hull gave better economy - sometimes as much as 30% over deeper v hulls of the same size. They are a buoyant high sided (and at the back), good value boat that that has a moderate ride, good economy but really safe when you hit the big seas and need to keep the sea out of  the boat. Mine is a 5.35 c/c that has been caught out over the Manukau bar and I was really thankful for the 5mm hull and forward buoyancy.

I passed a big one on Saturday that seemed to have the chines extended right up front that may be the one your looking at - if so this should be a dry, stable boat. Once you get to this size they all go good but with the gullwing plus chines economy could be pretty good. No manufacturer tries to make a bad hull and they keep learning. Price wise they are an affordable hull and engineering wise they put the weight in. Their 6.2 metre hulls are powered with typically a 90hp? and they perform well into the mid 30's and economically - try doing this with a similar sizes hull with the more fashionable, better riding deep v hulls then add another 50hp.

Likewise, 620HT, and happy with it. It did have a few problems with the quality of the sealing between hull and cabin top, but Scorpion sorted this out.  Some of the welding on the battery shelf left a little bit to be desired, but all in all I find it to be a good sea boat and value for money. I've been caught out in the rough stuff a couple of times, and felt the boat was always going to get me home safely as long as I didn't do anything silly. I went with the 'standard' 115 Optimax package and it seems well matched and pretty economical, 1.2 - 1.3 miles/litre once up on the plane. Wink JJ
