Hi guys.
Recently a friend of mine said something that I wanted to ask you guys for confirmation.
He mentioned that it is possible to get some hollow dyneema/kevlar cord and use it to protect the knot used to link the leader to the solid ring or swivel from being chewed away or just cut by pressure, when fishing heavy drags for big big fish.
Yet, I couldn't find such a thing.
Does anyone know anything about this? Is this even true?
I've used plastic sleeves and tubes to protect the knots, but I recon that, aside from crimped leaders with the sleeves, tubes (plastic or silicon ones) don't do great and sometimes don't really protect anything.
If anyone has some insight on this that could share with me, I would be much appreciated.

Best regards,
Pedro Tomás

JigStar Knot Sleeve is what you friend would have been reffering to.

I like the Palomar knot as it has  two loops of leader around the ring Smile.
Can you still pull the knot up tight  or do you have to leave a loose loop around the ring when you use this sleeve ?
I wish I was young again .... Id be heaps smarter than this time

And so you just put the sleeve around the loop section of the knot while tying?

cut a 20-25mm length and pull leader through it.  Wrap the sleeved leader twice around the solid ring, then tie a Chain Knot.
give it death!

Yep - chain knot. 300mm up the leader, minimum.
To get 300mm chain knot you need about 900mm of mono.
I should have some lying around in a tackle box. Will try and post a pic tomorrow.

I've never tied a chain knot. Well ok I tried once and failed. One of those simple things that didn't sink in to my head. Would love to see your video. In return I'll show you a 'shock knot' I know as a Benjamin knot. So simple

OK now it won't let me post a pic. It says file up load successful, but no pic appears. Then it says I can drag the pic to the file box, but nothing happens.
Anyway (k)not hard to tie. A series of L-R-L-R half hitches finished with a double half hitch.
You use about 3 x the length of the knot in mono. Typically in Vtu - about 300mm minimum in 200lb leader. But it probably depends on what you are fishing for.
In my pic - if I can get to post it, it is tied to a figure 8 ring. That way you make a few spare leaders of whatever weight mono you want then just clip on whatever jigs and hooks you want via split rings.  Mix and match. Fish Addict showed me that trick.
I will try and get this pic posted but am stumped right now.

Right - the pic uploads successfully - according to the prompt. Then when I press OK, it comes up in red that the upload is 'cancelled'.
Beyond me.
This site does get frustrating.

1.1 Mb . Well below the size limit.
It says it has uploaded OK. Then it cancels the upload.
FA is going to try and post it.

Posting this for Alan L

Here is a link to a short vid.  There are a number of variations with respect to how the first connection to the swivel / solid ring / figure 8 should be made prior to commencing the half hitches.
