Just installed a new fish finder (Raymarine Axiom2 Pro) and wondering about adding a camera to the shotgun pole to get a better view of the lure spread and have it feed into the new display which has video input connections.

Has anyone tried this and found a good camera option that works?

Plenty of pretty low cost action cameras on AliExpress etc - key elements I think would be:
- the ability to output the live video signal to the screen (wired or wifi)
- able to be connected to power (rather than battery) for continuous running
- waterproof, able to be pole mounted etc
- and of course a decent stable picture, wide view across the spread etc.
- anything else to factor in?

Hoping someone has had a go at this and can share some advice

I have towed a camera quite a bit when gamefishing - but I don't think you are going to find anything to do what you want.,
The wide angle required would be extreme and I don't think you would ever see all the lures given the distances in the spread.
You have a minds eye of some nice clear picture. Once I get to trolling speed with a camera and lures near the surface half the time you are looking at bubbles and the other half the time, waiting for them to clear.

The other issue is water clarity. You will be wanting to cover 30-50m distance. When did NZ water ever have that clarity?

Interesting concept camera on shot gun pole watching lures.
Let us know what camera works, and how image transfers to sounder.
What are you trying to achieve, footage of fish in spread or playing fish
Those that say it can't be done are being overtaken by those doing it.

Thanks, yeah you're on to it.  Not looking at underwater cameras but rather a semi-aerial view down onto the lures to keep an eye on things from the helm.  The shotgun pole just looks like a good position to mount a camera.

Objectives are to make sure lures are set out properly, are working as they should, haven't picked up a bit of weed etc.... and maybe even seeing fish up in the spread.

OK I misunderstood You. THought you were towing a camera (off the shotgun). That is different.
Should be able to do wireless right?  Mine is battery, but no prob for normal gamefishing. Won't last a whole day, but several hrs.

I think you will find that your shotgun pole will vibrate and whip too much on the troll to have any great success with this. Also even with a huge display each lure is going to be a tiny speck on the screen.

My advice is that there is no substitute for alert crew looking at the spread and utilising your screens for more important things like a well tuned sounder and radar image. My boss went down the rabbit hole of trying to outthink fish with video technology like this and it really was an expensive dead end street for him.
