I have an elite 7 - older model which I use on both my boat and kayak.
I have had it for 2 summers and it seems to perform well. It gets a bit hot under the hardtop of the boat so I have a little 12v fan hooked up to the cigarette lighter plug to keep it cool.
With the 200/50 khz transducer I have had a clear picture on the bottom down to 400 m (using 50 khz) metres travelling at 20 knots which is better than my furuno does. On the kayak I have HDI transducer and can easily mark trout amongst the smelt when operating in 83 khz.
Overall I am pretty impressed with the bang for your buck with this unit. It is a little slow to redraw charts when zooming in and out and throws the odd wobbly but it generally does the job well.
Another advantage is the cloud based charts that can be downloaded onto the SD card to give better contours of your fishing location if somone has saved the sonar tracks and uploaded them in areas you plan to fish - google insight genesis community maps
