As I have well and truly caught the Gamefishing bug and can't fund my TAS requirements at the mo' I was wondering if you can small boat game fish - mainly targetting Tuna without Outriggers.
I was thinking of running two longer lures off the gunnel rod holders and some short ones almost directly behind the motor. Is it worth the effort or should I just continue to beg rides and leave my much loved at home (boat that is).
Cheers

.I think the forward holders are at 45 degrees to the line of the boat. All holders are the stainless ones so strength should be right.
I had thought about two corners, a short in one window and a shotgun in the middle. I suspect it may be time to get out and try rather than theorising - all I need is some good weather.
CJ - I have seen some "swimboards" like you describe on ebay but I'm not sure if they're any good. I'm talking to Jonah about Kidneys so there may be hope yet!
Bender - the level of TAS required to start me off means that I need to prioritise carefully what gets bought first. and I'm open to ideas. I'll post the list and see what everyones priorities are!

Peter Pakula is often quoted as saying you don't necessarily need outriggers on a small boat - I think his small boat (Cockroach?) didn't have them and he merely had his two long lures run off the rocket launcher angled out at 45 degrees. That's small boats, but have you had a look at the outriggers on Rick Pollock's Pursuit?
One thing you can't really get without riggers, or at least a rocket launcher, is height and some (admittedly marlin lures) really need that to work properly. But as MM says, for tuna probably makes more difference to the boat driver than the fish.
DA, I'm afraid my previous set of outriggers disappeared a couple of days ago courtesy of TradeMe - would have loved to see them go to a forum member.

Awesome,
I'm inspired to go forth and experiment. It sounds like it worth waiting to get the right set of riggers and I can still fish without them.
I just need to invest in some rubber bands and I'm away and laughing. An excursion was planned this weekend but the weather has buggered that. I may just have to play in the boat and do some rigging and brownie point winning.
Thanks for all the input
