Fishing was slow going... Probably due the water clarity.... it was gin clear. The fish would of been able to see the boat from miles away. I just happened to be looking back towards land at a few gannets hitting a small bait ball. There was nothing really going off.... usual schools of trevs etc busting up on the surface feeding on krill....but thats a common site all year around up there.  All of a sudden about 100 m off the stern of the boat it looked like 2 sticks of dynamite had gone off in the water. Huge white water explosions. At first I thought it was a massive sharks... but multiple surface breachs all at the same time..

" Jesus... Thats a school of Bluefin said my mate." He had game fishing experience in the past and recognised the signs.

All this was going on literally a couple of hundred meters from land. It was a hell of a site and one I will never forget. There was nothing we could do. Armed with only a couple of lite jigging out fits and soft bait rods were certainly in no position to motor over to the work up and have a crack. It happened again and again for about 30 seconds in the same area.... Then gone. Done.

I have seen footage of Matt Watson chasing them up Bay of Islands in close.

Never thought I would ever see anything like that with my own eyes. Hell of a site. One I will never forget.
