Gamefishing Updates to Dec '23 - Waihau Bay

Looks like bluefin are off Waihau, but where do they go as they more north. For us that live further north does anyone know of anyone targeting these fish from Mayor Island north and how far out and what depth would we need to be in?. And info welcome

They travel north feeding up before returning down south again. There has already been reports of fish seen of the Rangatiras so they will be of the back of Mayor Is now.
Last year there was a big school of fish in 700-900m just inside the Alderman Knolls for a 2 week period(about a 25nm run out from Whangamata) That is probably the closest they come to our shores, mostly they are further out at West or East Ngatoro knolls.
I will post on here when the fish arrive but next full moon in 3 weeks should be a good time
Lets hope the weather plays ball

We caught two last Thursday, lost one at the boat on the leader and got one in the boat after it went around the motor and the other line, 60.6kg will try and put up a photo.
    A Good Skipper Keeps the water on the outside of the boat.

I think you can say the SBT are well and truly here.   Look at the latest 3 x reports by Enchanter on their Facebook page.  Catches of 14, 16 and 21 on 3 day trips.

definately a sbft, weighed at Tauranga, been lots weighed up to 161kg this year which is a record.
Wasnt caught at Alderman knolls either i have been told, more out the back of White Island

Heard a stripy and a mahi caught today at waihau , seems all the bluefin action has turned something else up to some lucky angler .

Yeah 130kg est Strippy tagged and released I heard. There was also a Mahimahi caught as well.
We caught two SBT Tuna one on Sunday at around 1000m on the Sea valley and one on Monday in 1300m out from Lottin point. Also kept one nice sized Alby 18kg
The SBT tuna were both around 40kg we weighed one and it was 44.3kg. Had enough fish so came home Tuesday. 
    A Good Skipper Keeps the water on the outside of the boat.
