I saw a guy tying up the FG knot the other day with the EZ Knotter tool, knot seemed to be a lot smaller and even, just wondering if anyone has used one with and what they thought! I am not in the market but just interested. Speed wise it was just a quick as doing it by hand but the knot was a lot smaller.

Looked it them myself but the $100.00 price tag was to much. I use a 500mm bungie cord. I cut the steel hook off one end and tied a loop in it big enough for my foot to fit through. I tie a loop in the end of the braid, hook the steel hook on the other end of the bungie through the braid loop and with one foot through the bungie while sitting down I run the braid up over my knees and then loop the other end of the braid over my other foot so as I spread my knees it pulls the braid tight across my lap. I can then start with the mono in the middle of the braid looping the mono over one side of the stretched braid the back the other side and then continual form side to side pulling the mono leader tight . Once I've done 10 loops on each side I pull the long end of the mono lleader accross and over the same knee i have the bungie on and down to and around the foot i have the bungie looped around. I can then unhook the braid from bungie and start to tie the half hitches.

Might sound a bit messie but give it a go it works real well and tries good strong fg knots. The secret to a good fg is hold the braid tight so as you loop the leader around the braid from side to side the braid really cuts into and grabs the mono.

Its prob for people who aren't serious fishos, I've a mate who've I've shown the same knots a 100 times. Then when it time to do it on the boat...he remembers nothing

Cheers Ben, my knot has always been a lot longer than that will give that a try. I use to used the FG knot before the PR knot and bobbin, it was a lot longer back then and even I tapered the leader so it was very smooth for casting, funny how things go around in circles over the years. Are you using the FG for jigging?

One question are all the half hitches tied with the tag end??
