Hey Guys

I just got a Tcurve Revolution Travel Blue Water 15-24kg 2.29m. I am wanting to get into Stick Baiting and Poppers, at the moment i am mainly only able to go to places such as shearers rock or flat rock to get anything close to a decent kingfish. However wanting to upgrade my boat at the end of the year for Barrier trips.

I was wondering which reel would be best to buy. I hear people say that a reel over 8000 size is just to heavy to cast all day.

So i thought my options were:

Saragosa 8000 (most logical for price for being able to catch limited big fish)

Twinpower 8000 (this are not made anymore so my thought was maybe fishing shops would sell it cheap because shimano are trying to get rid of stock, plus has extra drag to future proof and could maybe use for jigging)

Stella 8000 (expensive however has so much more drag and would be well set me up for future jigging)

I have been told that 12kg of drag with the saragosa is plenty of drag but worried if i buy a bigger boat and got out future that this would be tested.

Advice would be great thanks guys

all depends on your budget, The saragosa would be a great match for the t curve but or course the twin power and stella would be better.

Yeah, i hear the stardic are selling like hot cakes.

Am i over worried about the drag?

I don't really have a budget. To me the stella is a jump but if i am future proofing myself it may be worth going for it.

But if the stardic or saragosa is good enough for kingfish at great barrier no point looking at the stella. I just don't want to buy gear then find it is underdone later on when i go out further.

However it is double the price for a twinpower and stella

Spheros are great little reels for the money, 15kg of drag, I choose that over the Saragosa as I think from memory it had more drag an faster retrieve..   my new Saltiga has15kg drag and I'm hoping I don't ever have to fish with more than 12kg.

Sustain 8000 might be a good option, a bit better than the stradic. Stradic and Sustain have a spare spool also. I'd have a Stradic 8000 over a saragossa, cheaper w another spool.

The new Stardics apparently are a bit cheaper however don't come with spare spool. I think people just pick saragosa over stradic because they can go bigger. But have been told the new stardics have pretty similar parts to stellas

I know that stella's cost more, once you have got one you will never look back, just remember you are targeting kings and they will make you pay if you don't have gear that is up to the task, that is why I only use stella's for casting top water lures.

If you want stopping power might as well buy some rope. Guyys regularly land massive kings with a lot less than 12-15kg of drag, even from the rocks so not all about the drag
Only when the last tree has died and the last river has been poisoned and the last fish caught will we realise we can't eat money.

I have had clients fish for GTs with this rod.  It is a good rod, just not sure it would do a really high end reel justice.  I am not happy with the Saragosa 18k I have.  I would not buy another one of those.  I would mate this rod with a Spheros 14000, or 18000.  Simple and tough reels with plenty to stop reasonably big fish.
Tis better to have hooked and lost than never to have hooked at all.

I used a stella 5000 on a T curve revolution @ Elizabeth reef in the coarl sea, well matched set, light and easy to flick about all day. The little stella is rated upto 13 kilo of drag, and although pricey is tough as nails.

What type of rods do you have in that six rod Stella reel set up please? As just got a Stella 10000 and looking for a good general purpose rod for the boat and beach for casting and general live / dead bait fishing etc.   (if there is such a rod!)
