Dynamite lure up in the Solomon Islands....at least the small ones are. Got fish on the big ones too, but for a light popper set up in the Islands bloody near everything eats those wide glides.
I must admit I have not used the big ones here for kings, but I have heard of thems as does , and boy, does they wot!

I guess the reason I havent swum it, is that it doesnt look like the sticks I generally like. It probaly wouldnt respond so well to a big long rod sweep and get a good diving running action.

More a small jerks and zig zag about type lure. I must tie it on sometime....  sigh.

Under the $50 mark, I'd prob go for The Jigstar one (Tail walk Gunz) or maybe the Ocea ones?

Whats the consensus on the Williamson Stickballs that are at Top Catch?

Not a carpenter I know but also not a small fortune if loosing them from the rocks.

I am in the same boat as C A, caught fish in the tropics on the small ones, but have struggled with the larger model and here on our kings. Definitely better suited to a slow 'walk the dog' type retrieve using small jerks side to side with the rod tip. Some days kings will eat anything moving across the surface but I definitely prefer baits that are worked with a long sweep and have a subsurface swimming action as described above.

Currently have a H & F lure (Strada?) which looks bloody strange being almost banana shaped, but swims well for a cheap bait and has barely any paint left from being hammered by kings. Have also caught fish on Orcas and Sebile baits, and the Tailwalk lures that Jigstar do swim reasonably as well although yet to hook a fish in NZ on one (probably more due to lack of time swimming it than anything). Hope that helps

Yeh "walk the dog" on those gives the best action. used both  large and small ones they do dart quite a lot side to side but dont like the big long pulls

You know Angler, you are gunna have to stop being so disconcertingly accurate an observer. If you are not very careful, I will be forced to concur with you yet again. So stop it.
