can any one comment on using a game clip swivel on the leader for stickbaits to allow changing lures with out having to cut and tie again, does it work or will the baits simply swim funny? or is there a better way.
cheers

You could but its unecessary.
Tied direct or swivel to split ring or tied to solid ring to split ring like you would jigging.
Fish can be cagey/warey less termial tackle in the water the better IMO.

thanks, tried the Jig set up today with a silid ring and a split ring, went ok but I thought the baits swam a bit differently.

Hey Tintub, I assume you are wanting to use a "coastlock" or something similar? I have found some lures only really work or respond when there is a fixed connection ie. uni knot tied hard to the tow point eye etc...

It may also increase any leader fouling problems, that little extra weight on the leader may mean more fouling on the hooks...

Give it a go, if it works for the lures you use and for yourself why not?

yeah, the extra lenght even with the jig type set up was a pain today, fouled the hooks and leader way more that when just tied directly to the lure, and the bite was a bit slow may have just been too many components. guess we'll be sticking to the uni knot and plenty of practice on the PR's

I used to use snaps on lures until I had a fish with one of the nz fishing news guys.  He warned me of the possibility of a fish bitting the snap open.  I found that really hard to believe until I pulled in a bluefin trevally and a snap I know I had closed was open.  I have not fished that way since.  I now use a swivel and split ring.

Good point PT,

Wonder how these MOMOI Escape proof swivels would go with casting lures?
