Hey fellas thinking of doing a run from Aucks to the mandel western side to stick bait live bait for Kings. Any thoughts on likely posies??

Assume you are travelling by boat Pete.
As you head to coromadel harbour there are two islands about a couple of miles out , cow and the calf. The cow (the larger one to the north) has a reef system that runs SE for about 200mtrs. Working either side of the reef can be worthwhile. The ground between the two islands has patches of foul  can form small scale eddies and current lines when tide is running so worth a shotWink

Whilst in the region you have a fairly good outlook for any work ups that will usually get more active with surface action during periods of slack water . Mainly kawhai with kings smashing bait . The only problem is that if your technique is efficient and realistic the birds will have a go at any surface lure , I would use a sinking bait in that situation.

Any of the islands to the north and south have points with current running past, worth a go and can be handy if weather picks up.
Should give you something to kick off from.

Top lure for the area at the mo has to be the Heru Ulua 150 in green and silver , if you can find oneWink

Thanks Dave that most definitely is a good start. Jon nah thinking more out of a boat have teamed up a fellow forum member who is a great skipper & has a awesome boat.

one more thing Pete,
last time out although there was plenty of surface activity there was not a lot of kingfish sign or action , thats fishing.
As a back up option i had my slow jig rig , a handful of Kaveman jigs , had the hottest snapper bite i have had for a while. Nothing big but several nice fish between 40 and 50cm . Actually the bigger fish were caught about 10m below the boat on the drop in 45m. Thumbs Up  Thats fishing
