Hi fellas, I'm asking what's possibly the most frequent question asked on the forum but with a twist.
I'm looking for a reel or two for the upcoming season to achieve a couple of things and am interested to hear from guys using these particular reels.

I'm definately not trying to do the age old one reel to reel them all sorta deal, I think we can agree that's near impossible.

what I do want some advice on is a reel that's suitable for kings 20kg plus that's jiggable and castable. Now obviously saltiga's and Stella's are at the top of the list with Daiwa Catalina's and shimano saragosa's close behind. What I'm really interested in is hearing from anyone that regularly uses a saragosa 10,000 and/ or a daiwa 5000/5500 sized reel and how they fare against the NZ kingie. My main concern being are they grunty enough? (Of course they are for the odd Occassion but for the big one?).

I intend to purchase a couple of reels, one for a combination of jigging which I won't be doing a lot of but want to get into a bit more and stickbaiting. And a second for live baiting and trolling , hopefully for yellowfin. A different kettle of fish all together.

At present I'm torn between a saragosa 10,000 - talica combination or one saltiga 6500 and using it for trolling also as I won't be doing a huge amount of big game stuff by any means.

I'm interested in getting good value and am not biased toward any brand in particular.

Give it a month or so for the Okuma Metaloid spin reels to show up, they are potentially going to shake up that "not a Stella but still high end" segment of the spinning reel market, should be cheaper than a Saragosa.

Rozboon are you maybe referring to the Okuma Makaira spin?

Get a Shimano Twin Power PG with a JM16000 spool. Use the standard spool for jigging and the JM16000 spool with 60lb braid for top water and trolling/ live baiting.
I sold all my heavy trolling gear and use the above reel with a Saltiga spin jig rod for trolling and swap to a popper rod when the need arise.
So light and easy to use in a small boat or even a big one for that matter.

Agree with homebouys post. But good sized yellowfin are tough fish might not run as long but will seriously test 24 kg nylon on a equivalent game reel 50 size. So yeah pe 4 will do job sometimes but haven't had experience on big yfin but seen few on nylon. Depends what your gunning for, but in my humble opinion a 50 kg plus yellowfin is a far harder proposition than your average 80 -90 kg strippees. Should you be lucky enuf to hook a 50 kg yfin of course but hey are there.
