Link below. I almost choked on my cornflakes while reading this, particularly the quote from Seafood NZ's CEO, praising Jones' leadership: 

“New Zealand’s fisheries are a public resource that must be managed carefully. We support changes that help ensure healthy fisheries which all New Zealanders can enjoy,”... Umm, yeah, okay then.

Thats crazy . Has our fishery collapsed that much they to abolish the size limit? or keep onboard and dump later out of sight?

When it is completely trashed, they will then introduce radical conservation measures. Like closures.

To play devil's advocate. 
Would it not be a good thing that they have to keep everything they land, regardless of size, as long as it is all included in their total tonnage/quota.
This, instead of throwing undersize fish back knowing many will not survive anyway.

In theory, yes, I suppose. But another proposal before the committee is to provide for "more flexibility to dump unwanted catch at sea" so I don't really think allowing comms further pillage will end well. I'd like to know what Shane Jones personally stands to gain from this crusade.

Oh. Ok. 
In that case no go.
If they had to keep everything then maybe.
Even unsellable by-catch could be made into fertilizer or pet/fish food.
No wastage.
However, if they can dump what they do not want, then absolutely NO!!!

It should be obvious to all that Shane Jones has been 'captured' by the commercial sector.  When you are allowing the comms to ring net in areas that are no go to the recs clearly something is wrong.  And then, when there was a kerfuffle, he downplayed it saying the comm take would not be significant.

A QUICK CALCULATION IS 4000 UNDERSIZE fish @250g for a tonne or fish over 290/310mm  need 800 for a tonne. More $$ is bigger size kept?

What would you keep??
