I am planning to go over to Japan this year for the jigging and popping festival in mid March.

Just wondering is there anyone else out there heading over for this one. Should be very interesting checking out all the new stuff coming out of Japan including the new Stellas.

hey Murf Ranfurly was certainly an interesting expedition, well worth the trip just for the experience. The problems we had were the plague propoertions of rat kingies out there, i have never seen anything like it, they would follow us around when we were motoring away from them the little f******. We got a few good fish with the best one a king of around 23 kilos getting nailed by a little Mako near the boat. Catch of the day was an albacore on a jig that would have been around 15 kilos(yummy). Very neat place will do it again but maybe in the winter when the rats have thinned out a bit, the new extreme boat was awesome it was a bit lumpy on the way out but at no stage did i or the crew feel unsafe.
Heard u guys had a fun day out there Murf, give us a yell next time you over here.

Hey ginga,

I was with uhunter on weekend at waihau.  We talked to you at the gas station on saturday avo.  Wasn't flat off the cape on sunday morning thats for sure.  We were surprised to hear that you still went out there.  Did it flaten off again as you got furthur fom the cape.

We had a go sunday morn off the cape rocks but the fishing was slow.  We got a couple then the bronzies turned up again so we went out for another troll.  No action on the sunday so couldnt make it 2 from 2.  Cray guy told us he saw a marlin jumping right in off the cape rocks when he was doing his pots sunday morning.  We saw some splashes in there later in the day from a distance but figured it was a shark.  Would be good if you keep a livie in their for more than 30 seconds without the sharks molestering it.

Yeh the cape is definitely firing for bronzies, conditions were a bit lumpy when we got around the corner but as we came up on the bank the sea and wind all dropped off and it was nice out there, ended up being a huge day getting back to land at around 11pm.

Next time will do from Hicks Bay.

Will post some pics of the albie soon
