Real newbie question here, but do VTNZ (and other testing centres) require a boat trailer inspection to be done minus the boat? If so would it be safe to carefully plonk a 4.5M aluminium Ramco on the grass while I get it done or should I get some old tyres to put it on?

The boat can stay on, but doesn't have to as far as I know.

Thumbs Up

Can drop on the grass fine. If chocked either side when do drop, its ready to load, makes life bit easier... and If on tyres, bow up a bit makes even easier to reload.

Edit:  Before the Wof check, do the basics your self.
 Lights working and dont flicker.
U bolts plates around springs good condition.
Jack up each wheel, spin it up.. if spins free and NO rumble.
Full on shake between top of the tyre and bottom, No play..
Safety chain not stainless, and if is , is stamped rated.

Any structural rust damage on the chassis, even surface rust they can ask for that to be fully checked.
