Been a while but finally got a Surtees 495 on order. Trying to sort out the above but thought I would ask advice on the same. Launch in an estuary, mainly out and about the Tutukaka coast and hoping to do the odd run out to North Reef and as this is my last set up wanted something easy to read acurate and use. Been told the Garmin Go7 is a good package but I have very basic knowledge and simply find all the jargon challenging...spend including fitting hopefully around $1500.00
Just a recreational boy and would appreciate any advice.
Many thanks
Cheers

Might be able to find it cheaper elsewhere, but that's a very solid do-everything Sounder, plus with QuickDraw you can get super detailed charts of your spots over time.

Hey mate, if you want to have a talk about the Go7 (the Go7 is actually a Simard unit not Garmin) feel free to give Robert Sim a call on 021 259 8558. He deals in Lowrance and Simrad units so may be able to answer any questions you may have. He is located in Maraetai so may be a bit far away for an install but he's really helpful guy

I have one of these (see below recently on the for sale thread, may still be available?) on a similar sized FC boat, and find it excellent to use. I'd never owned a boat before I got mine late last year, and liked the simplicity of this one as I'm not particularly technically minded - also, it fitted on the boat well. That's something to bear in mind, the different shapes of them.
I also looked at Lowrance, and a good mate has a Dragonfly on his boat.
7" minimum would be my recommendation.

Good luck.

Ive had 5" and 7" units, and strongly recommend 7" minimum - as you want 2 screens at the same time for sonar and gps chart.
Also - Ive tried the old buttons operation, and the new touch screen, and touch is far easier and quicker to operate.
The cheapest touch 7" I know, is the Garmin Gpsmap 720s for $1,709 from Marine Deals. That's everything needed, G2 charts and transducer.
