A few questions I’d like answered and any tips you may have
What are the best months and times to fish in the estuary?
Best lures to use / live bait?
What techniques or fishing spots do you recommend around the estuary?

Any extra tips or spots you know for starting fisherman would be greatly appreciated!!

Not too many on here would fish down there. Mostly Aucklanders. Still I've been there once, for nought. I'd bring a small silver lure or softbait and hope for a kahawai, mullet or searun brown. I did catch some nice trout in the Catlins lake though, by the bridge and off a boat. A boat would really improve your chances. 

Still an outside chance of harbour salmon to I would have thought.

I've fished over the bar a bit but not in the river
