earthworms for bait

I tried earthworms for bait in about 3m of water off Parau on the Manukau about 20 years ago. It was overcast and had been raining . I had a few big hookups on what I think were big trevs. The line snapped as I was just fishing  with light line and the line came back frayed as if wrapped around oysters etc. The earthworms definitely worked though
