Swanie has claimed the first forum pin for kahawai.

Swanie is a very keen kahawai man (he tells me his family prefer to eat kahawai than other fish) and a regular on our forum trips nailed a 2.9kg kahawai

It was weighed on the gas stations certified LPG scales.

 

He describes the catch "It was caught on the boat �Taranui� out of Tairua. Friday 15th April. Straylining over the sand in a huge current between Slipper Island and Tairua on 6kg.

One of many large Kahawai, probably not the largest of the bunch as some of the bigger ones were used as bait for snaps. Very lethargic fight for a kahawai, I thought it was a nice snap�� until it saw my ugly mug boatside, then all hell broke loose."

Nobody has ever come up with a great idea after a second bottle of water.
