Looking to get an intermediate spinning reel for both jigging and stickbaiting/poppering.

Narrowed it down to probably a saragosa 18000 or the saltist 6000/6500.

What you think is the better real for both jigging and stickbaiting?

Probably no one in NZ has used both to make that opinion rigaWink but have heard good things about the Saragosa from USA forums(nothing said about saltist yet,too new maybe?)

been using the saragosa for a while now and reckons its not a bad reel. No stella or anything but a good value reel for the $$. Only using an 8000 size  though and found the 18000 size reels a bit chunky.

I see killacustoms on here has a 1400fb spheros for sale for $450, new spooled with braid and a upgraded handle. Could be a good option.

be hard to make one reel do both,fish mite not be taking jigs then someone hooks one on a stick bait or the other way round and you will be rerigging all day best to have two set ups

used a mates saragosa a few times and landed a few kings seemed a pretty nice reel and have seen it land a few nice kingies too, more looking for a few opinions on the saltist, have read a few reviews from the US which seem to have mixed views.

it won't be my sole jigging setup unlimited, but will come in handy to use as a jigging setup on a jig stick too, only a minute to change over really.

sorry about that you must know what your doing when it comes to changing leaders for casting and jigging and that stuff

I've spooled up a Saragosa 14000 and found the line lay a bit disconcerting, it ribs up a fair bit, a repeated line lay on top of the previous one not oscillating and spreading it more evenly.  Sure it does the job well enough and has been designed with some tuff work in mind.

I have the previous model Twinpower and a Catalina aswell, and rate both of these highly.  I use the Twinpower for casting, stickbaits etc. Catalina more for jigging. Can't speak about the Saltist..  

Look at retrieve rates, overall weight and spool design if you plan on casting with it a lot.

I picked up a Saragossa 18000 when they first came out in 2008 and thrashed it for the first year jigging, it's still going strong with some jigging but mainly used on a 7ft Calstar using Stickbaits and medium Poppers, has not missed a beatThumbs Up.
