Wind-on leaders seem like a good idea to this game fishing newbie. I have 80lb braid on my reels with a 100m mono topshot. Wind-on leader attached to topshot? Can't see a downside apart from having to learn a Bimini twist which doesn't look that difficult.

After years of using long doubles I have this year converted to wind-ons, set mine up yesterday with small loop in topshot using bimini twist and cats pawed to the wind-on.  Took the cats paw back through 3 times.

Biminis are easy to tie, just make sure they are tight. They are a 100% line strength when tied correct, so practice tying them back to back with a metre plus in between and keep breaking them until eventually they will break in the middle of the line connecting both knots. Its all in the tension

Thumbs Up I've used windon's since BA taught me way back then. Mine are reasonably short now 4 - 6m because over the years I've found if you are winding the fish up to the swivel you don't really need all the extra length. They are great when fishing short handed (as I often do). also my leaders are 2m so I can wind the fish up to the tag pole when solo. Some die-hards will say you need long leaders to keep the swivel out of the water but who know for sure.

For some time now I have been experimenting with a PR Knotter Tool for making the Bimini twist tie, it is simply fantastic, practical and fast.
