Hi all, I will be moving to Christchurch early next year and hope to be able to fish. Currently in Singapore, and I do a mix of offshore bottom/jigging fishing, and landbased shore jigging.

Was wondering if I can get some advice on the where and hows of fishing in Canterbury region for a start, or any recommended boat charters I can join?

Also concerned about any rules and regulations to fishing I will need to abide by.

Thank you!

Don't know much about fishing in ChCh, but the rules for fishing are on the MPI website

You don't need a license - unless freshwater fishing - trout/salmon.
You just need to follow the MPI rules - which are about what you can take, how many and size etc.
Good luck.

I would think that  technique and available species are fairly consistent for most of the bottom half of the main Island  and thusly most of the vids on you tube re fishing  the South or Stewart Islands  ( there are heaps ) would be worth a watch  , some good laughs too  .
I wish I was young again .... Id be heaps smarter than this time

I think the (sea) fishing is pretty sparse around ChCh. Have family down there.

In my small amount of experience, the saltwater fishing in that part of the country is pretty good, it's just the number of days that you can comfortably take a boat out that is the limiting factor.
