Used to be on the telly here as well. Easily the best fishing series I've ever seen though one I saw on gudgeon..ing? was a bit strange for a kiwi; them things no bigger than sprats!

Gudgeon haha yeah they are treated like sprats too as livies for pike and perch. They are dumb as fish I could catch 20-30lb nets of them at a local canal, aptly named the "gudgeon cut".

Muppet - I grew up fishing the Rushall cut. I expect as another Villa fan you can't have been far from there.

Yes, I have the boxset of VHS tapes somewhere. Great series.

Almost unbelievable but did you know Bob James was recently caught fishing in the closed season?  It was my mate who work for fisheries that caught him. He told me the guy was not good to deal with. Those weren't his exact words - I'm putting it nicely.

Pretty sure it was a river as my mate patrols in a boat. I never fished the Teme. I remember Ludlow was a nice part of the world. I've fished the Severn and Avon and I've fished the Trent a bit. Most of my stuff was local lakes and then all carp fishing but I got started on the Rushall canal down the road catching perch under bridge. My Dad used to take me to a local lake from about the age of 4 - St Margarets down from Great Barr. Two really old lakes. There were some huge fish in those lakes but it's all closed off now. Happy days. I'd rather be here now though Approve

Yeah I enjoyed coarse fishing growing up wouldn't swap for what I have now though but I think it is still awesome. You ever fish Bewdley much? Or the carp fisheries like Zion farm?

Yes, I've fished Bewdley. Evesham and Pershore were other areas I know we fished. Decent pubs round all those areas. I haven't fished Zion. Of the known carp waters in the Midlands, Cuttle Mill was probably the most well known that I fished. A group of lakes we fished a lot just before I emigrated was a place called Bishops Bowl nr Bishop Itchington. Are you from West Mids? I'm from sunny Walsall.

Yeah Netherton near Dudley JW I never got as far as Walsall haha!
Pershore was an interesting spot we fished dead bleak for Zander at night my uncle landed a 15lber there a couple of pound shy of the record at the time and used to catch half a dozen a night. We would keep and eat them too.
Bewdley is amazing on the deep stretch south of the town fishing with my same uncle he once hooked a big salmon there no kidding was an unreal hook up charged upstream and busted him. And the shallow gravel beds upstream of the town for the barbel. Went back last year new record barbel is 21 pound from that stretch.
