Decent fishing at Clarks beach this Easter.
 
First morning on Friday caught 1 snapper, 1 Trev and 10 Kahawai (Big Kahawai!)
 
This morning caught 3 big Kahawai, 1 big Trev and 10 Snappers!
 
Using Pilchards/Bonito.
 
 
Just off the rocks :D  (Snappers were all legal aswell with Trev from today and all Kahawai easily over 40cm)
 
Pretty random though.   Friday morning we stayed for an hour and half and pulled in a fish every 10min or so till the tide made us go home.
 
This morning we caught all fish within an hour or so and than after that no more bites.So we went home.
 
Gotta love fishing!

Sounds like an awesome weekends fishing. Sounds like some nice fish caught and some big meals had.

 I got to go nearly everyday this long weekend and today is the only day nothing has been produced, not even a bite but hey you get that on the big jobs ;).

Thumbs%20UpNice one.. On the edge of the channel theres a nice hole there, was gunna  over there. sadly domestic chores needed attention lol.... top stuff for you..

I had a look on Google earth and couldn't see the rocks. Which side of Clarks beach? Looking at it theres one long beach to your right when you drive into Clarks Beach which has a rocky out crop which juts out a far ways to your left when you face out towards the beach and then further along theres a smaller beach as well. If I can pick your brain please on which side I would be grateful - Cheers.

LOL I was just going to jump on post to see if anyone was keen on going to Clarks beach and what weather conditions would permit such a journey. Count me in!!!!

I know Scooby wanted to shoot out for a fish as well if he's still keen as well.

021 158 8766 is my number, going with a friend and our partners.  theres a little grass area they can relax on while we fish.  Bonito and Pilchards (salted best) is the go around Clarks Beach.  Low Tide is at 10am, so we gotta be there say an hour or so before so we can fish right up to lunch!
 
Hopefully its a good day and not many boats out.  Bring a few sinkers as you might lose a few :P  I just use ball and spoon sinkers.  Will give you a call tonight or in the morning!

Funny thing is I was prepping to take my son to Clarks beach which is why I was here in the wrong thread doing some research (Not long since got home).

One Kahawai tonight - about sevenish so two hours off high tide.

Overall the fishing was pretty quiet, not many locals out, always a sign.

One of those nights where the sunset is so beautiful - the Manukau looking clean and clear with the lack of rain.

All in all we only had about four hits with the one fish landed.

A chap next to us had just moved to Clarks two days ago so we three got chatting with a local about the spots (we were in the little bay in front of the reserve just left of the boa tramp (facing the water).

The other guy got a short tail Ray at the start, otherwise he was plagued by small bites.

We used 3/0 flashers with fresh Mullet on one hook, Pilchard on the other.

Definitely will go there again for the sheer beauty of the place and the good sense of community chatting with beach walkers.

Might have to add it to my list of places to retire too.

We could not unfortunately (I read all your comments in every Clarks beach/Waiau Pa thread).


My Son asked me what time Smudge said to fish (specifically "Dad what time did the Fishing Website local guy say?").

We only had the evening free after work - so we got there at five ish and by the time we set up we ended up in the zone between 5:30 - 9:20pm.

After our session we popped around to the Waiau Pa boat ramp, there was one fellah fishing from his car on the ramp in the dark - rod and line on the side of the ramp there.

Definitely will go again, next time we will put some sabikis out so we can actually slide bait with something small enough to be in the range of a good Kahawai - King fish.

When I take my sons Surf casting, I tend to fish simple with the likes of Flasher Rigs and the small re curves to increase the chances of landing the foot long kahawai - since to them this is a very good result and they come away really happy.

If It is a serious spot and time is not limited we go all in on the bigger baits - balloons - sliders - top water lures etc.

We did cast a soft plastic about for a bit but the wind was coming straight at us. 

Driving past all the houses with massive Christmas tree lights on display sure did cap off a lovely evening and fall in love with the area (like I say, I have been there before, I went to Rosehill College - but never went to the boat ramps for a fish).
