If you watch the first minute of Neil Mackellows Mastercast clip; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0wGQls_8zswThe only time he straightens his arm is to finish the dip and the end of the outswing and at the completion of his punch/pull at the end of the cast this guy was five times world champ.This was Neil's style for the high swing pendulum, the OTG styles seem closer to having a straight arm so it would depend on what style of cast you are asking about.  

Some casting styles utilize the right arm as a fulcrum for the rod to pivot around.

The more advanced styles have you lead with the hips and body before punching through the rod with the right while pulling in hard with the left.

Mate, I dont know you from a bar of soap, and ive never gone to any casting competition, so i dont know what goes on, or what has happened behind the scenes in the past, but i do know this, "When the going gets tough the tough get going"!

Mate, step up to the plate and hit the ball out of the park, lifes to short dont sweat the small stuff, I recon you can do it, you are showing some interest, "Unleash the Beast", go and enjoy your hobby and  have fun,

another great day , good to see some new faces and a couple of new records for the ladys section, once again big thumbs up to Jock well run and organised event, the BBQ  was going most of the day with hot food and drinks so thanks to the Spackys of Spackmans Services and Repairs in Feilding.
