280mtrs of Jigman X8  but you may get up to 310mtrs with Daiwa Boat Braid...

could prob go lighter for extra capacity given the Z40's max drag is only 10kg.

yep the Z40 has very average drag output, better suited to pe5 or 6 last time i filled mine i got only 300m of pe6 on it.

I would go pe6 on that reel. I usually run 10kg on pe4

Sorry but I don't think the Z40 is all that suited to the 3 Kings. That limited drag is going to loose you a lot of fish on a trip of a lifetime. The Z40 is not a cheap reel either. The same money will get you a JM PE6/7 or a BX 500N/600N and some change.

Some skippers I know will drive away from big fish if he sees jiggers busting off too often.

thanks if I had the choice again I would of spent the money on a JM but I didn't know I was going to the kings then and it was supposedly the best reel to buy at the time I have upgraded to carbontex drag tho so it's around 15kg now

even with carbontex it wont put out 15kgs, i have re washered mine and added an extra cup washer and it only puts out 11 kgs.

Carbontex washers doesn't add much more drag.  it is much more durable and smoother but only if you grease them with Cals.  Make sure you have good thumb pads on your gloves!

thanks well unless a JM pe6 becomes available in the next month it'll be getting the test. my JM gloves i hope do have good thumbs.

If your'e dropping into 180m with a 7 knot current with a 500gm jig, you may not be on bottom with 250m line out....not much reserve if a 60kg puka comes on....
 
What boat you going up with and when?
