You'll find the novelty of jigging bluenose wears off fast...  @3-400m a 500g hurts.

Yeah Cbro I know that for sure.

I have been fishing out there with an old roller tip rod and an old okuma 50w so time for an upgrade from all that weight!

It's a pain to thumb the braid on a 50w and the rod is pretty much a broom stick.

The thing I do like is 3.1 on the reel seems pretty good.

Anyway I am going lighter and thinking about some kind of heavy action jig rod so if I want to have a jig I can without taking my good rods out there at all.

Need something with tons of lift for the 1kg sinkers on the ledger/puka rig though which it will mostly do.

I only jig if I see good sign in 260 or less and as you say not for long cause it hurts.

I have an Okuma 50 level wind and was thinking about chucking that on one of reeldeals seeker hurcules 6' rods just for grins.

The okuma still has lugs for harness which I like out there sometimes.

You ever put a big sinker on a heavy action jig rod?

Electric reel. If you are going that deep, it makes sense. That way if you get debaited, it is not a long hard slog to get the damn thing back up again. If you insist on fighting the fish, then you can wind it manually when you hav a fish on, but for just lifting to relocate or check bait etc? Let Mr Technology handle the boring stuff :-)

I use my oj500p which holds 600m #80lb on a 300g synit.  Use  500-1kg weights most of the time.   Vince has been loving his new Maxel 08 or 10 (cant remember) and he loves the jigging rods too...imo its the only way to go if your going manual, jigging rod takes all the back hurt out of it.  He has the electric gears as you know but sticks to his manual winds...guess we just aint pussys up here.   OJ's 4.1 is perfect, the maxel seems pretty good too.

Hey thanks for that.

Yeah I was gona swing by Vinces for a chat but got wound up in this storm.

I am addicted to jig rods for sure.

I have been kicking around the longer parabolic rod idea so I can stay inboard a bit more if I want.

I tend to lean out a bit with my shorter rods which is a habit that I need to break.

I also feel if I have a bit longer rod and I want to jig I can get more action on a jig with a slower reel and a longer rod to make up for it.

At that depth I only come up 20 meters off the bottom kind of thing.

It's a compramise idea for sure.

Also I have the 50level wind here and it's pretty light.

You been doing any diving?
