that should do it

If often does. One of the larger kings we landed on our last trip with Lionel was on pe1 with 20 lb.

Guys, what are your thoughts on crimping mono leader to the jig over a knot?

take proven gear, long way to go and a large cost to lose fish after fish because of busted rubbish gear, beter to have 3 good hooks than 50 bendy ones....
gami jig tuned is all id take to the kings, uni or crimp to jigstar ring and grommet, (run assist off big ring)

Various options and ways of connecting.

For me I use AG chain knot to jigstar grommet (with protection knot sleeve), and owner split ring/jig/assist set up off that.

Tested on hanging scales and it is very strong. Have a look on youtube on various knots v chain knot for jigging in direct comparison tests. Crimps do work well and are strong but the chain knot provides a cushioning effect as it can stretch slightly and spreads the load over say 5cm where some other knots/crimps can result in the load being very concentrated on one small area of line/join I have found in my experience. Only my opinion and others will have other ideas.

This rig saves me getting yelled at by Lance.

AG chain knot was developed for flurocarbon leader, doesnt work as well on monoWink

Crimps work well too, have used them heaps.

More than one way to skin a cat Wink

My mistake, reread the post & you are right Kaveman. AG not good for mono. Not a fan of using mono for jigging myself.

I assumed wrongly that we were talking about fluorocarbon.

Fished the kings the last two years on cascade and arenui. Both times there were many many set ups loaded on board. Lots of jigging gear, jm, jstar, accurate, daiwa, shimano etc. most commonly used gear were jm pe7 on 350-400g rods. A lot of kingi fishing was done on pe5 size set ups. It's good to use heavy gear but hard to fish it all day. .Bust offs were mostly angler error (hitting boat), worn pr fg knots, some snaps int the middle of the braid. No snaps of uni knots, assist cord or traces. Bass are beasts. Suggest normal jigging gear for kingis and elephant set for the big bad bass. A light set up pe 1-3 is also great fun around the islands and princess group.

Cheers guys. Another question. Do you think a swivel is an advantage? I have never used them and have never had issues with line twist even jigging in 180m. What are your thoughts?

have seen jiggers with spin gear use them...you could in theory tie direct to your swivel with no protection....the solid rings need protection.
