Hi all we are going to Fiji on April 17th to a Maqai eco surf resort which is situated on Qamea Island which is out from Tavenui.
I was thinking of taking a casting rod maybe some poppers I have a monster mesh rod and a oputus bull reel about 22kg drag thinking that I could walk around merrily casting out from places to see what I hook up toSmile
Never been fishing outside of NZ any recommendations lures to take rigging etc anybody been to this resort?
I'm not a surfer we going there mainly for my surf mad son who is presently in the Raglan Surf AcademyEmbarrassed I will probably do a bit of bogie boarding hopefully I wont become the lureLOL
Any recommendations for anyone to take us out fishing from there?
We are currently also getting some bits and pieces to give to the locals some help out after the devastating storm taking old reading glasses clothing and hopefully some provisions like tinned fish/corn beef tinned fruit tea rice yeast cooking oil sugar depending on how much it costs to take over. Kinda feel bad going there to kick back and have fun after what they have just gone through but we locked into itUnhappy
Anyway and recommendations greatly receivedClap

I went to taveuni.......I took a 2 piece surfcastor and just before i took the boat  there....i bought a skippie for 5 bucks at suva fish market.........when you arrive in taveuni by boat.......the water is very deep there...and i meant to go back there at night and chuck a bait out in that and see what happens.........where we were staying.....i borrowed the dingy and rowed out to a a series of 3 small islands....used my 6500 baitrunner and caught a few colourful fish and saw something bigger.........a skippy would be good for burley........and then cast some pops and sticks out as well as fish bait..........as long as you can keep a skippie in good nick it will help wherever you go.........burley will alwqays help......rather than just chucking a lure out and hoping something is there..........maybe you could find a jetty as well.......great place to try your luck..........Good luck.......great diving in taveuni as well.
Once the idiots turn up..Im outta here...No time for Drama Queens.

Thanks for that was thinking though little dingy big Tiger sharkShocked could get pretty interesting watched a huge shark swimming around a couple of locals in New Caledonia who were out netting they scarpered up a big Mango type tree and this monster swam around them for about a hour we watched from up top of a cliff great for usEvil Smile not so much for them but that was thirty odd years ago really wished I had a video or camera with me back then.
My Optus Bull spooled with 80lb braid heard that most things have teeth like real sharp and big teeth and that you need at least a couple of feet of wire attached to anything you put in water?
Was going to get some PVC drain pipe to use for transporting my Monster mesh rod which is about 7-8 foot.
Heard that the Halco Laser Pro red head lures seem to work alright in the Pacific?
