Gidday all, first time poster after watching with interest plenty of times.

My family and I have just upgraded to a nice secondhand 2008 Surtees 5.5 hardtop that came with a 2019 Honda 100 outboard on it. Loving the boat so far and have got a decent bit of use this summer already as the kids have got real keen on the fishing and watching Dad go diving.

The outboard has a 4 blade 13 1/4 15R prop on it. It has great holeshot but the top end is a bit limited. It does otherwise go pretty nice so i’m not hugely stressed.

The guy we bought from was doing a lot of bar crossings from what I understand hence the 4 blade holeshot type prop but i’m thinking of something a bit more well rounded might suit us better. I’ve heard a 3 blade 16P suits this setup well?

We do a bit of everything with the boat from a light load fishing with my wife and three young kids one day then the next it could be loaded with four divers on a big mission. I don’t cross bars a lot but I will do it at times.

I’ll be in touch with some dealers etc to chat about some options too but would appreciate any feedback from some gurus or anyone with the same/similar setup.

Agree with you kandrew.had a 4 blade in the seanymph and preformed as you described. I tried a 4 blade on current 16 and yes dug in better in a chop and could reduce revs but can't afford it.so sticking with the 3 blade.jyst got to go a bit slower in a decent chop.ecen with trim right down but in a flat sea.mire speed but it's not a race boat so save my $$

Put the new prop on today and hit the water. What a difference! So much better. The boat still gets up easy peasy but it cruises far nicer with less RPM and the speed on the top end is much better as you wind it on. Definitely running more efficient at cruise speeds now. Also gave me far better trim range too. Didn’t really realise the trim issues I was having with the old 4 blade prop until I tried this one. WOT trimmed up hit around 6100 RPM just before redline, perfect. The prop I got was a 3 blade Honda Stainless Steel 13.25” diameter by 17” pitch.
