I have tried fishing for moki in the past at places like Wellers rock and the wharf at karitane but with no luck .

Any tips / advice are greatly appreciated , thanks Zack

I believe very hard to catch in a hook.last time u got one was in a net.

I believe very hard to catch in a hook.last time u got one was in a net.1978 at Gt Barrier .we tried with bait and got pigfish.just as nice eating imo.

There are articles about catching Blue Moki, Crab bait is the key ( from memory ) . google it , stuff will come up. Good luck

You can catch them on a hook -  but not common.
Have caught 2 cracking good ones - fight like a trevally.
Prawns.

thanks Alan I’ll give prawns a try next time I’m fishing, where the prawns whole with the shell or just the tail meat ?

They were cooked with the shell - just been in freezer well beyond useby date. Found a better use for them than just dumping them. Moki don't mind crunchy bits. Used to it.

Further to Alan L's advice I have found prawn heads, cooked or uncooked make great bait.  Eat the prawns, save the heads for bait, win, win.
