There are many options but as far as reel goes I would recommend a Daiwa Saltist 30t on a 250-300gm monster mesh.

If you are open to the idea of spin I would reccomend a Saragosa 10000 on a maybe a T curve 200gm

A lot of people might disagree with me here....

I would buy a Jigstar rod and throw a Avet JX with upgraded drag from Swordfish Steve and spool it with some PE6 jigging braid.

I currently run 2 JM Enchanter Specials with Avet JX's on them and have not had a single issue. Have caught plenty of kings around 26-29kg with no issue. I have even had them out on Epic a few times. Before the JM rods I had the older Jigstar rods which were great until a mate high sticked one and broke it (I have to have matching gear - OCD)

I run 9kgs of drag at strike and around 12kg at sunset.

Jigstar Ninja ML $370
Avet JX $350 + drag upgrade (This can be done later, stock it will give 9kgs, upgraded 15kgs)

If you were to go spin, your 10k reel could double as a topwater set with a second rod?

I do not recommend increasing the drag (pimping) on any Avet reels, I have seen first hand the damage done to reels that have had this done. You will wear through bearings and other internal parts. You will also have an uneven drag curve, so any small advancement on the lever can put huge increases on the drag, rather than the desired amount. Avet have done the tests on changing the Belleville washers, it's a simple 3 minute process, but have found it to be a unreliable process to increase the capabilities of your reel.
You are better off to buy the Avet raptor.

Can anyone offer advice on the following set up?

ACCURATE Jig Rod and BX2-600NN Reel COMBO

Torpedo 7 have these 50% off! I have been toying with the idea of getting a decent set-up for a while, but could never justify the $1000+ price tag... But at around $500-600 I am seriously considering it. I don't get out jigging often enough to justify "top-of-the-line", but I know some people rave about accurates... is this good value? I would mostly be targeting kingfish and groper around the top of the South Island.

Your expert opinions would be greatly appreciated.
