I have just recently moved to Auckland from Ireland. I used to mainly river fish at home for salmon and trout but I am keen to get out and catch some snapper. I live in mount wellington and I dont have a boat so I hope to get out fishing off the rocks. The closest bay to me in mission bay... is there anywhere good there for snapper fishing.... if not where would be the closest place to have a chance of getting some snapper. Ive heard mixed reports about kawawa bay and takapuna and they are a good drive away for me so dunno if they will be worth going to.

Im just looking for somewhere close by at the mo as my time is limited due to work but I do hope to get away to coramandle and bay of islands over the holidays for some proper fishing

Any tips are welcome Smile

Welcome to NZ. A friend of mine fishes off area between Kohimarama beach and St Helliers.  Not sure all the details but worth a try.

Hey Mate,

Me and my flatmate are poms from Essex & Wolverhampton and have been here a year or so, we're still finding new spots to hook into biggies, try the wharf by the new Events Centre, i worked on the construction of it and saw plenty of decent kahawai pulled out on lunch breaks, anywhere off the wall between mission bay and the city is good for catching littluns or livebait, short of that its a case of turn up and chance it. your welcome to join us in the search !!!

Hey mate

I am from dublin been here 6 years and have been fishing around auckland for the past 3 years, if your looking for a good spot to hook up some nice snapper or kawhai and the odd king fish then i would recommend Duders regional park its just past mareatai its a nice drive and its about a half hour walk from the carpark to the point and best to walk out on the low tide, Landed a 23kg kingfish a couple weeks ago.

Best of luck
