New Years Eve, I'm fishing up at Leigh Wharf and on the stroke of midnight I catch a nice big eel with my Abu Garcia Veritas rod. Pull it in, bait up again except when I cast, the tip of my rod explodes and the tip, rig and line are gone.
I recently went to Marine Deals, where I bought the rod and asked the young fella at the counter if it was covered by the warranty but he just shook his head, said nope and that it looks like it was high sticked (which I'm not 100% understanding of) so unfortunately I just left with my head down.
Now, I'm pretty unhappy that my favourite rod was broken, and since I can't get a tip section only, I'm asking for recommendations and suggestions of different rods before I fork out for the same exact veritas. I've got a bunch of jigs that I plan on using with it, all 15g to 45g on a Temu reel with 15lb braid and 30lb shock leader.
Sorry admins if this is in the wrong section, I still feel very new to this fishing game so I figured it's the best place for me to post this.

Heres a look at my sadness

Sad I know but most rod failures are due to operator error. High sticking causes point loading. Lifting the rod too high.
I have broken two rods and have seen many more break. Only one of those times it was due to operator error, still didn't get anywhere with a warranty claim

Thanks for the reply Smudge.

Any recommendations on a new rod of similar or better build?

That looks to me like some big powerful bastard has tried to chuck the afore mentioned 45gm lure over the horizon .
Dude , less weetbix or a longer rod with a heavier lure weight rating 😁

I've not used a Veritas before, I guess what you buy will depend on your budget. How long have you had the Veritas? 15lb braid is pretty heavy line, does the rod have a line weight rating?  What amount of drag are you using on it?

I actually had a 1oz running rig on it when it broke haha. I think it's rated for 68g lures and 15kg line

The veritas has a 15kg max line weight. The reel I had has a max drag of 8kg also.

I ended up buying a second hand penn 942mh rod from FB marketplace although I'm not sure how long it will last. It seems like a decent rod if I was to buy it brand new, so maybe I'll get a new one if the secondhand one falls apart.

Hoping to get out for a tester this weekend if the weather permits

Just re 2nd hand rods....dont be put off by damaged rings or tips . They are cheap (even the flash ones ) and dead easy to fix .

The 2nd hand rod I just bought has a kink on the tip, I'm not sure what to think. Have a look below. I can't focus up close but I can see rings around the kink like the skin of the rod has been stretched at that one point.

Honestly I wish there was an option to buy different sections of rod blanks from fishing shops.
