Yes, the article does make a few reasonable observations.
Yet the only mention of cuts was to the rec sector.

The "What's the Catch?" report, released today by think tank the New Zealand Initiative, said this country had some of the most relaxed recreational fishing rights in the world.

Think tank need to have a rethink. Take a long look at historical catch numbers do some basic maths and see where the problem lies. Who sits on the New Zealand Initiative who comes up with such bollox?

IMHO recreational fishing should always take precedence over commercial and when the day comes that population is so high that a recreational take is at the maximum sustainable there cannot be and should not be any commercial fishing for that species.

ex commercial fisherman.

You don't have to look far to find that out..it's a sell out..no recreational fishers or Legasea even..no excuse
No one turned up last night.honestly you all deserve what you get...the Mpi meetings should of been flowing put on to the streets with people...honestly ..guys ..your a sad lot ..no support but then on the complaints via the keyboard...not just aimed at you Muppet..this is for everyone

Where are these meetings published how do we find out about them?
It probably doesnt help attendance when most fishers have never heard of the meetings.

Such Important event and every Auckland fisherman can't be bothered...I bet the minister and Mpi are having a great laugh..the recs couldn't even get more than 1 person..not even Legasea could muster a soul
