Am thinking of upgrading my electronics on my boat. Looking at the GPSMAP 7400 xsv series.

Have any of you guys got them on your boats and how do you find them. Down VU, Side Vu and Quickdraw contours ???

Talked to a few guys that have put in the latest Furuno gear and they not that happy with them.

I don't want to start a war here guys just constructive comments would be good

CH.
Try www.bbcboards.net
Scroll down the forum menu to the Garmin sounder/gps topic.
Some very good videos and advice there.
Seems to have most of the current Garmin units reviewed/demo`d.
Garmin headhunted a bunch of Lowrance engineers awhile back.
So it is no coincidence that Garmin has a greater market slice of late.
For now anyways.
Very fluid industry.

Was recently on a boat doing 45kph and CLEARLY marked a school of bluenose in 450 m of water like it was marking a school of snapper in 20m idling. Thoughts?

Hi Crazy Horse, I have been using Garmin for quite a few years now and love it. My latest charter boat has the 8015 unit on it with a 1kw transom mounted transducer. The main features are 1) easy to use, 2) super clear picutre, and 3) Very quick. I have been using Garmin now for over 4 years. Before this I was a die hard fan of another huge brand but to be fair I had no end of problems and poor customer serivce though out the world.
This will make people cringe a little but I only run my sounder in AUTO mode, its that clear I have never needed to change it. Most of my fishing is in 60-140m so I do not use the Down VU and Side VU functions very much.
Installation of the Garmin gear is super simple, even a basic fisherman like myself can sort it out.

I'm having to make the same decision......
1) Garmin with tm265 or

2) furuno fcv 295 with 2 x 2 kW transducers.

Have major issues with big name brand. Spent 20 k and its rubbish for finding fish.

Heard great things about both options just depends if you want chirp I guess.

Good luck

Great comments guys so now just have to make my mind up if I just go with the map option or go with fish finder as well.
Put a Furuno Fcv 295 in a couple of years ago and it is great. 2 kw tran. Have good depth picture to 800. But just may sell it and the Raymarine E120 and go with the complete Garmin package. Work in progress

You've got a bit of a weapon there with that FCV295 Crazy Horse. I wouldn't be in a huge hurry to go elsewhere, especially if you want to consistently mark bait and fish in the deep. All I'll say is make sure you can still see fish in the deep, I see lot of pics of the bottom with other brands but "show me the fish" I reckon.

If you want to go touch screen with Furuno, the guys you are referring in the first post could quite well have not have got the right gear....., putting DFF3 sounder unit in behind a TZ touch (1 or 2) with the right transducer installed will blow any other unit out of the water IMO

I've only got TZtouch2 with 1kw on my current boat as couldn't afford going more than 1kw at this stage but first trip out on the weekend i was marking bait and bluenose in 500m, had a faint read in 1000m, and that is without playing too much with the settings in the back of the unit. hopefully later in the year i will step up the sounder unit in the back and also the transducer

if you want to stay with analogue then fcv1150 would be another step up from the 295 and about as much of a weapon as you'll get
