I'm over in Egypt at the moment training with Will Trubridge and Ant Williams for the world champs which start on Monday (first day of competition for us probably Wednesday). This year it is a team comp so three divers from each country do three dives in Constant Weight, Static and Dynamic, total 9 dives, and all points go towards the country's total.

Ant is writing up a blog, it's not a good idea to be specific about performances leading up to a team competition as the other nations would be keen to hear where what we're up to, but it will get more detailed as the competition starts: http://freediveworlds.blogspot.com/

Also here's the video of my 213m DNF world record (equalling!) dive: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=01j3791X56c

Hey Dave,

Next time you're hanging around the American Ladies team (I know you will be Wink), you should say hey to Ashley Futral.  She's a good friend of mine and the newest addition to the team.

Best of luck to all you guys in Egypt land.

Is a team comp a reason not to go for personal bests and WRs?

All the best and go for gold!!!

Kolt, I've met the others in the US team but haven't seen Ashley yet. Will say hi for you if I do meet her.

SeaCamel, yeah you can't really go for PBs in a team comp, because if anybody gets red-carded then the team is basically screwed. So the aim is to do solid 90% performances across all the disciplines.

Sounds good Torcea!

Preparation is still on track, I did a comfortable 100m dive yesterday with no suit in the warm water, will have one last training session today with Ant then we'll be resting ahead of the first comp day. Kerian's fluid goggles are great, you could just about use them for spearfishing and vis is around 30m (last year it was over 40m).

Getting pretty crowded on the training lines now and there's already a bit of trash talking between the teams.

Yeah, big lenses fitted straight into the goggles - www.monofins.co.nz

I don't seem to be as narced over here, probably a combination of the warm water and being able to see better. Lots of big surgeonfish hanging around the training lines so at least I'll have somebody to talk to if I do get narced :)
