I have a Kilwell Heavy metal fire gold PE 4 -  6 jig rod and Saltiga LD35 reel (w/ 80 pound braid ).
Would these two be a good match for catching bigger kingfish outside the inner gulf ? cheers

Hi Dimitry, the gear you have is ok for most Kings you will encounter around the gulf etc. if you were planing to fish the three kings, White Island etc I would suggest you might be a bit under gunned but it really depends on your experience & that of the skipper of the boat your on.
Tight lines

Go for it. That set up will catch most of the common kings. Gulf, coromandel, whangaroa etc will be fine. If people can catch 30kg kings on 50g rods then why not
You may be busted on the ocassional monster but will be plenty of fun for 95% of them

Dont worry about your technique.....Ive been doing it for years and still suckLOL
Kings dont care when they are hungry...........Live baiting is more relaxing/lazy but there is nothing quite like the surprise of getting monstered on a jigWink
