Looking at replacing my pe4 as I find it too sluggish.
What are my options?
I hear jm is bringing out a high geared reel...True or false? .
I want something the size of a pe4 with min max drag of 12kg.

Talica12 with torsa throw arm....sure not a 'dedicated' jig reel as they are not 'narrow' per se but really versatile and plenty of bogie, capacity for deepwater work......livebaiting, trolling etc but yeah i like jigging with 'em......

2 speed option as well...best of both worlds

dedicated jigging reel that size Cbro, you probably should be looking at Accurate. Some nice reels in their stable now and great service from the boys at DeCoroThumbs Up

The back play in the TSMIII and TSM IV would not be much fun to jig with, single pawl, no AR bearings and a 20 year old graphite frame that would struggle to contain everything with a beefed up drag......

I have seen the saltiga hypers used and it didnt last, as well as binding at high drag settings.

I have a little Avet and it binds up at higher drags.....

I have used a Talica and  liked it,( personal preference)It did have a custom longer handle... might have even fished it beside you and Jonhhy when you had a very slow trip home...... (We stayed out untill 0200 hours and listened to ya talking with Monganui radio)

The Accurates seem to have a good range as Kev mentions and good service.

As for a JM high speed, best to ask Chris dircetly if he has heard anything?

CBRO the answer is yes the faster jm,s are soon to be here, I have ordered some and expect them in the not too distant future. I have pe3 and pe5n on order.
They will be just slightly more expensive than the standard models though I am told.
The new pe2 is a faster reel and I struggled a bit with that fully loaded last weekend
Yes the new accurates look great but you should try jigging with one first as the higher gear gives the angler a much greater loading
I have a bx500 in Camo you could borrow to try and if you like it we could well do a deal.

Something about 5.1 would be ideal IMO on the smaller spools like the pe3 and 4 I have both 4.1 and 6.1 and find one to fast and one to slow

In the bigger reels 4.1 is heaps

I have an Everol vertical jigger VJ12. Sweet little dual drag reel about the size of a PE4 with 40lbs max drag and 6.1 ratio. Retrieve is 95cm per turn. Greg at Go-Fish will sort you out - well priced too.

Thanks boulder I'll take you up on that offer. Would like to try a fast retrieve before buying one...I presume I'll prefer jigging the high speed but really want to see how it feels once ive hooked up.
If the pe4 had a higher spool id be happy, whats the ratio of the new ones?

New Accurate 500XN Slammer 6.1:1 ratio, no annoying clicker, big drive shaft, Sunset Drag lever, fully sealed main shaft, maintenance anti reverse bearing port, lengthened handle arm. The list of upgrades on these new slammers is extensive... And heaps of usable drag... Look nice in the Matt Black and gloss Red... Spool diameter of the 500 narrow is perfect for the higher ratio of 6.1:1 depending on your jigging style...
