Have done it a fw times after jigging till my arms were falln off. As long as kings are present ur always gonna have a chance but what I noticed was the fish were almost always smaller than the fish we caught on jiggs. I use a diving swimmer which dives to about 30ft & a shallow swimming larger bibed lure this way ur covering a 30ft + water colum.

Rapala cd 18 works good. On a trip years ago we caught 3 in 4 hours trolling to and from the snapper spot, and on other occasions we caught them on 9" green yellow and orange game lures, the old 125grams spinner painted bright orange with black angled stripes works good anytime

these are the ones that worked the best for me

Wanabe you paint that lure yourself? I've not seen that design or colour. What made you pick it?
Best thing is it works! Great stuff

we have done quite well on
game lures like trophy lures t3 blue leader (flying fish colours) or t7 lumo(jack mac) kingis to 25+kg
halco roster 165mm poppers (white/red head) kingi's to 16kg
sebil bowa (gold/black) kingi's to 14kg

tried rapala's cd18 and mag30's  but dident work for us just got big kahawai

the first time we struck the kings on game lures it was change of light had 5 lures out 4 kings hooked up but only landed 2 as we were only 2 onboad but 16kg and a 20+kg tagged

the lures work best for us at change of light to about 2 hours after sunrise then top-water/jigging/ live-baiting takes preference

we troll around headlands with plenty of current ,  pin's or structure with plenty of bait fish
these are just a few of 2012/2013  catches

buying lures is one of those things only beaten by lying-down activities

What sort of rig do you use for this? Sliding ball sinker above a swivel?
