I'm a pretty avid jigger, but have never really done any topwater fishing.
I've got a charter coming up to the three kings where some of the guys I'm going with are keen to do a bit of stick baiting so I figured this would be a good chance for me to get into it.

At this stage I will be using a 20k stella, as I already have one, although I'm aware a 10k would be more suitable, so whatever rod I get needs to be suitable for both as if I like/can justify it I'll eventually invest in another stella/similar.

I'm not afraid to spend the $ to get good reliable gear, but prob not keen to go top top of the line as I can't really justify the money of a piece of kit that may not get much use.

Any comments/recommendations anyone has will be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Matt

Also I do a bit of kingi fishing off the rocks too, so something that is suitable for boat/rocks would be ideal. (although I cringe taking nice gear rock fishing)

Hi Matt, I use a Carpenter blue chaser 83/40 stickbait rod - mostly off the rocks where it has been very good at stopping kingfish to 15 kg so far. I look after it well, but accept that some scratching is inevitable.

I use the same rod on charter boats.

Honestly, you won't regret getting a top end rod for this sort of fishing, when it all comes together off the rocks in particular it is just awesome.

I'll say! Big smile
A king on the bricks is worth 5 in a boat.
