Was just playing around with semi-realistic mayflies/stoneflies. I've had some great success with them, and wondering if others have tied similar creations - feel free to post.

You've done a nice job with those.... They look good and will work, obviously for actual fishing a softer leg would work best, but for realistic tying they are very nice.

I like realistic patterns to look at as a tiers artistic expression, but don;t rate them against impressionistic patterns for fishing.

This is where, for me, fly-tying splits into two styles, one for fishing, one purely for art. The art has never appealed to me but I understand it's appeal for others. My good friend Russell Anderson is one of the better realistic tiers in NZ ... this is one of his wasps....

While not truly a realistic, more impressionistic but with elements of both is my stonefly....

Nice, yeah i guess a lot of my work is more showy than they need to be, but they seem to work. Attached are a few big fish catches - ones, with a little movement that i have had big fish on - for what ever reason. Not super realistic, but on that side of the fly tying spectrum your talking about.

Hey, it's all good, Impressionistic always works better, but I';m a flytier and I love the artv of the flytier. Tying a fly can be to catch a fish or catch the eye and gods forbid we ever confuse the tow.

Naki boys, could you post a video of tying one of your very clever creations?
Maybe another of catching fish with them too. They'd make great viewing,
