I want to get more into stickbaiting/poppering and I have a couple of rods already ( not ideal but usable) but I'm just wondering if my Saragosa 18000 (use for jigging) is the right reel for the job?

Is it too heavy and should I go with a lighter Saragosa like a 10000 that will have less drag or should I just buy a spare spool(s) and use it for all three fishing types/methods ie stickbaiting/poppering/jigging?

I'm saving up for some better rods so I want to put my money where I'm going to get the best fishing results/return from.

Cheers for any advice.

Yeah the Saragosa 18000 is heavy & big for all day casting. I prefer using my Stradic 8000 to sniff out any potential and if the extra drag is called for, then I'll go for some throws with the bigger Saragosa. Ideally prob 10000 / 12000 ideal IMO, but untill I can warrant getting the likes of a stella, the Saragosa 18000 definetely has a place for stopping big fish on a budget.

the bigger the real the faster the retrieve too, so a little of the extra weight is offset by a little less winding.

Got a saragosa 8000 spooled with PE5 that I have been using for poppering, stickbaits and casting deadbaits off the rocks for about 3 years now. Does the job nicely without breaking the bank.

1800? Must be a dam small reel mate!!! No wonder its failing ya!!!

In all seriousness, I presume you actually mean 18000? Havent had any issues with my 8000 on decent kings etc. I would take it back to where ya bought it and get it sorted.
